Loads of vocal support for Keegan tonight. No where near 'full house' tho

its funny how the clubs performances this season are now forgotten, how thousands of extra geordies who had planned a cosy night caused chaos RUSHING to st.james and how everyone interviewed on the tele is absolutely pleased as punch, but for what? someone who admitted he hadn't even watched a live game of football since he left man city, a manager who didn't win anything worthwhile last time he was in the northeast, who failed as england manager and has a reputation of running away once things aren't going his way

the same "someone" who spent 7 years playing golf in spain and then got newcastle promoted within two years? Watching footy isn't everything you know ;)

Keegan's managed to get every club he's ever managed promoted in their first season - no mean feat!

It'll be interesting to see what happens when roy keane leaves sunderland, and what the mackems say about him in years to come, because he's in a very similar position (came to the club with no managerial experience, got them promoted, and might actually keep them up). If he doesn't win anything and keeps you in the premier league will you be saying the same about him? I doubt it ;)

the england manager previous appointments reads like a managers hall of fame (with the exception of mclaren ;)). Robson, Hoddle, Venables, Erikkson and others - all outstanding managers. They failed to win anything either, hardly makes keegan the worst of them...

how many of you actually wanted keegan?

conway - i here what your saying about roy keane, but to be honest i'm not his biggest fan. he worked wonders last season but this season has proved he lacks experience. no team who spent 30m should be where we are.

my comment was more a pop at how fickle newcastle and most football fans in general are, rather than keegan himself ;)

As far as I'm concerned I'd rather have him than Redknapp. The blokes done well with Portsmouth, but he manages in a very similar style to SA, and I'm not sure he would have got the time to make an impact from the fickle crowd. I think the other names being floated about (Mourinho , Houllier, Deschamps) were just pipedreams to be honest. Thanks to fat freddy and his trigger happy mentality we can't attract a decent manager for love nor money. With this appointment we've got someone who can turn things around and is actually doing it because he loves it. He'll get the time to sort it out from the fans because he's done it before and they know where his loyalties lie. I'm not sure any other name would get that apart from Mourinho and the bloke has more sense than to take the helm

As for keane, don't get too downbeat fella, money doesn't equal success... You should know that having witnessed some of our previous buys and their spectacular failures (Boumsong anyone? )

I couldn't give a toss about this tbh. Ashley is only pleasing the fans and if "special K" fucks up he will be forgotten within weeks.

The fans seemed happy enough to think bouncing around on live telly shouting cringeworthy things such as "there's only 1 Kevin Keegan" would be a good way to express themselves. Personally I wish Shearer and Kegan would jump off the Tyne bridge, then again you would probably get mortal geordies on telly singing dont jump to the tune of "hey baby"

exactly, ashley has buckled under fan pressure completely.

he said earlier this week that he wants a successful manager, fair enough keegan has got some teams promoted, but he's won fuck all. newcastle fans are so fucking fickle.

'oh, we havent done as well since keegan left eleven years ago, doesnt matter if the bloke hasnt watched a game since his last at eastlands, THREE YEARS AGO. yeah, we'll go for him, if he's done it once before he'll do it again.'

football's changed a hell of a lot in eleven years, and so has newcastle united, and bringing in this dinosaur from the 80's is only going to drag the club more and more into self delusion.

i pray to god that chris coleman comes in as keegans no'2, at least we would have a footballing brain from this side of the millenium
