    Do I look "coloured"?

My current stance is a reaction to robs illogical turn on me... i ahve done more to comabt racism on this board than anyone, to pick me up for being racist is retarded...

The inital comment was said to highlight how bigoted most of this board is....

I don't refer to myself as a zog or my black mates as wogs

How does casual use of racist terms help in your fight against racism on the board?

I dont really think the term "paki" is very offencive..... We get called brits dont we? Isnt it the same? I would only really class it as offencive if it is used in an offencive way

    Thats totally different though.

Indeed, you could argue that both are shortened versions of countries of origin, but the term Brit is not used in an offensive manner whereas paki clearly is.

I have often thought that and do see your point but its society that has made "Paki" into a highly offensive and derogatory, it is never used with non racist implication imo.

As for keep me out, i was utterly disgusted by some of the views that came from those dickheads.

One guy..."I dont care, shoot them. Kill them all" what a fucking prick, I would take great pleasure in seeing him treated like some people seeking asylum are treated.

They clearly have no idea what most of these people have been through, and they seem to think that they are all terrorists and are going to blow up their oil refinery

Was rather amusing when the guy who was the leader of the anti asylum group had no fuckin idea what to say when he was asked "why are people afraid? what are they afriad of" he just said "sorry, i cant answer that question." He bloody well should be able to since hes the once who is so adiment about keeping these people out!!! And he didnt have a clue why!!!

Felt sorry for that congo guy :(

It ISNT an offensive word unless u MEAN it to be offensive..........

Jess is right - its just a shortened version of their origin......

If I decided to start taking offence to being called a Brit (even if sum1 didnt mean it that way...)

Wud that make it a racist remark?

    Nope............

Fair play. But I don't really think you can use that term in a non offensive manner simply because of the racist meaning behind it that is commonly associated with the word.

You could go out and call someone a paki with the very best of intentions, but don't expect them to throw themselves at you....unless of course they are brandishing a rather large bat.

I am by no means racist but theres certainly no way I would go out and call people offensive names associated with racism, I don't think thats a particularly good idea!

I agree with what ur saying...I just find all this "name calling" racism a bit daft really!!!

By that I mean ppl taking great offense to being called something or other..........

Im waffling on here - i know wot i mean but cant get the words out :p :dunce:

No it wouldn't, but being called a brit isn't at all even considered to be racially offensive whereas calling somebody a paki clearly is!!

Surely you can compare calling someone a brit to calling someone a paki?! Come on!

Thats like going up to some random and saying "Fuck me. You're an ugly bastard. But its ok, cos i dont mean it offensively"

I doubt they would appreciate that, and I doubt that anybody would appreciate being called a paki.

I understand the term paki may be used for all people who are of a different race but if the person is actually from pakistan (sp) wouldnt that be different? Fair enough if the person is from africa or asia fair enough but would it still be bad if thats where they actually were from?

The problem is most people who use the word paki, will use the word against indians, bangladeshis, pakistanis, afgans, and any other person of middle eastern origin. Thats like calling an irish "a brit" or any other shortened term for a western country for which they would take offense to!

Just a random note: Indians call pakistanis "pakis", which i found quite amusing.
