    Ummm Alilie

TRANCE isnt a style specific to Lee - your right! He doesnt say this is the case - however - i wud say Lee has HIS OWN style of playing it......his own "sound" etc...

Ok - you tell your "mates" about ur new tracks that u have got, class, so does lee tho ;)

Am sorry like - your a sound enuff lad n that - but when it comes to this like - you REALLY dont get it...........

Everything Lee says just gets twisted to be used against him - whats the point?

(Bring on arse licking comments everyone..blaa blaaa....and see if I give a flying rubber duck :D)

    I do get it.

I get exactly why he does it, I just don't agree with it, and find it pretty arrogant.

Look at the situation like this...
You hear a track you like in Promise, go up to ask what it is, and Lee says "Sorry, I can't tell you". That's pretty sad. That's just gonna piss people off. The clubbers, that pay your wage, and give you reason to DJ. Without them being there, it'd be pointless.

I know a hell of a lot more important people that'd be more than happy to tell you what a tune is!

    Broony>Fuck off! :p

How is it arrogant? It isnt at all!

Hmmm - i dont agree with the going up and asking what a tune is either - LOADS of dj's WOULDNT tell you what a tune was they were playign OR wudnt even acknowledge you!

You find it annoying how lee doesnt tell you (or others_) what tunes he plays? Am sure Lee finds it annoying the fuss ppl kickup about him not telling ppl them!

In your very own words - Get over it!

Believe me mate, LOTS of DJs would.

It gets a bit annoying when people are constantly getting at you going "What the fuck's this?", "What's that?!", but not telling people is an arrogant attitude.

Personally I don't give a fuck what he plays, it's not my style, but if nothing else its good PR and at least helps your 'image' as a DJ to tell people.
If it's so upfront and only Lee has a copy, then chances are Joe Public who's asking what it is won't be able to get hold of the damn thing for months anyway!

People only kick up the fuss because he doesn't tell people, if he told someone what a track off whatever mix was, they wouldnt go "Fucking hell Lee, you're arrogant as fuck for telling me what that tune is without any hassle"

to be honest i look forward to seeing lee play because i know he spends time in finding good tunes and he isnt going to just anthem bash. And i dont see what the problem is with him keeping his set list quiet, hes spent ages to find them himself why should he make every other djs life easier, if sumone hears a song they like they should try just as hard to find it as he did :)

Yeah - lots WOULD tell you but on the other hand, lots WOULDNT!!!! Are they all "arrogant" etc? I dont think so - its just down to each individuals personal choice...surely they are entitled to this?

Isnt a DJ's job to entertain a crowd, play good tunes etc....NOT to tell people what they are?

HOW does it help your IMAGE to tell people what tracks are?!?!?! EH?!?! Nah mate ur gettin v confused here like - a DJ's image is helped by his mixing, track selection, crowd interaction etc......a dunno many ppl that rate a dj on the amount of names he drops of his tracks?  Cud be wrong tho....

I used to think that it mattered to me if a dj posted tracklistings/setlistings etc, now I think its fun to find the name of a track if you desparately want it that much.
Now I dont give a fuck!!!

Now you're the one getting it all wrong

What I said was, pissing people off, the clubbers that pay money to go and see you, aint exactly good for your image is it?

I don't know of any DJ that wouldn't tell people what trax are, other than Lee. Maybe I'm just jaded, or maybe it's because I 'represent' a genre of music where there's no real ego, but still, this is the case.

Yes, that's exactly what a DJs job is. You're there to entertain Joe Public, not piss em off ;)

How is it pissing off the clubbers by not telling everyone track names? How many clubbers go and ask Lee the name of his tracks? 1 or 2 maybe per night? TINY TINY percentage of the clubbers.....

Whereas the VAST majority of them will be loving listening to this stuff lee has spent a long time digging out for THEIR listening pleasure....

You dont know any1 but lee that doesnt tell people tracks? Find that hard to believe - not saying ur a liar - just find hard to believe ;)

WITHOUT telling people the tracks he plays would you say Lee entertained joe public?

    Yes? (you cant deny it!)

Then he is doing his job :)

    Dear me Allie,

This really gets to you doesn't it. I'm not defensive at all, why should I need to be?

As for getting over it, what should I get over? The fact that you don't like my policy on track listings? I won’t release track listings; end of story. I think you need to get over it mate.

I have also never suggested that a tune was 'for my use alone' once again, members seek to twist my words.

This debate can rage on for weeks for all I care, I find it really amusing.

At the end of the day, I work hard and have struggled for every booking I have ever played. Promise did not come easy to me at all as some of you might think.

Originality, that’s the key, and I class my self as very original. Why should anyone else benefit from my hard work? I've repeated myself so many times in various threads on this matter, you would think people would get the message, but I think they are the arrogant ones, who assume they can demand to know my track listings, as if it is their god given right.

Thank you to the people who understand; I just want to play good music. Is this a crime?

You would think so according to Allie.

    Chill out boy.

To be fair I'm not sure. I've only seen/heard Lee once, and heard a fair bit criticism for that set. Maybe it was just an off night, who knows.

Find it as hard to believe as you like, but as I've said, it's not too often I ask Trance DJs what tunes they're playing. Every time I talk tunes with House DJs though, they're more than happy to tell people what they're playing :)

Maybe only two people per night do it, but that's still two people going home pissed off for no reason :)

Do you think Lee is the only DJ that looks hard for tunes? Fucking hell mate so does everyone. It's part of what being a DJ's about, looking for that tune that drops so well. Other ppl still dnt keep it secret tho ;)

Beginning to get bored of this now, going round in circles and getting nowhere.
Everybody obviously has their own opinions, I'm not changing mine :)

My my Lee, how awfully big you must feel attempting to talk down to me :king:

It depends what you class as 'this'. It isn't necessarily a personal dig at you, and I'm sorry you initially took it that way, I just don't agree with the attitude that you, and probably a lot of other DJs in your field have regarding tracklistings and the like.

You're not the only DJ out there that's original either to be fair. Again don't take this as a personal dig, but there are DJs out there doing far more daring and unexpected things in sets than you, and they get by just fine issuing their weekly feedback charts and the like.

This, rather obviously, is going to continue to repeat itself from here, so we shall have to agree to disagree I'm afraid.

    Context...

    Dear Allie,

If you honestly think I'm talking down to you, you must have a severe inferiority complex. This is an adult discussion, if you don’t like what I say, unlucky.

How often do you see a play list with White lable ‘Unknown’ on it? All the time, the big DJ’s hide the big tunes as much as the next DJ. You are being very childish to suggest other wise.

You’re drinking a big glass of sour grapes and I feel sorry for you.

I really do pity your frustration, but hey, it’s a tough industry.

    With respect,

    Lee

    Re: Context...

Which is why I suggested that my argument is possibly jaded, due to the fact that I'm not a huge fan of what you may call the 'big DJs' of this world.

Apologies if it's not how it was intended, but I would see such comments as "Chill out boy", and "I really do pity you" as attempts at talking down to me, but hey, maybe that's because I'm tired and pissed off.

Not really going to get into the whole "You should tell people what you play", "No I shouldn't" argument, as far as I'm concerned, this has gone as far as it will :)
