The turnbull building looks great and its hard not to wonder how cool it would be to live there.

But the positioning is crap and theres basically NO actual real life amenities based near the place that are convenient to get to on foot... unless your prepared to drive.

That whole area is at risk of becoming the no-go area it once was again, if things go sour in the region. Suddenly not so cool then.

It's behind the bike shops on Westgate Road, on the left as you're going up the road, up to as far as where Elswick Road goes off to the left. There is a square with a little park in the middle, though the houses around that are incredibly expensive (around £600k I think). There are also a few streets that run up to Elswick Road. They were all built in the 1830s, so wonderful high ceilings, original floorboards etc. It's in a conservation area too.

Given its location, it is incredibly quiet. On my street there was a great atmosphere, people would check out what was going on if your burglar alarm went off etc.

even if you do lose your job through unemployment, or even if you are off due to sickess or accient there are insurance policies out there to cover your mortgage payments and some that cover up to 50% of your income so as long as you put the correct precautionary measures in place then you're fine :)

We rented for ages but mostly because neither of us have been in a position to buy. Now we are ready and the house prices arent too bad at the moment.....they are staying steady for a while and are set to increase again in the summer.

Face it they're NEVER going to drop.

Sadly we will be renting for a long time yet, due to pesky banks taking issues with my beloved's interesting credit rating.

I did consult an IFA, who advised to leave my fella if I wanted a mortage.

Actually, knowing we CAN'T get a mortgage is quite relaxing.

I did have that awful feeling I really, really should be on the property ladder, stretching my wages to afford a shed in Benwell.

Now I know we are financial lepers, we rent a lovely riverside townhouse, which we could never get a mortgage for in a million years, though the owner occupiers on the estate despise our lax tentant like attitude to late night noise and parking spaces.

well the house we're looking at is worth the extra £50 per month its gonna cost us to buy it and its so much better than where we are now.

So we'd be canny stupid not too

Besides we've been together long enough now, we need some stability. After all its only gonna be a few years and we'll be married too

I went for a mortgage to buy the flat Im renting last week, she said I passed the affordability thing but it had refused on my credit rating. But I said it was off when I was an apprentice and Ive been doing ok with payments for the last year since my wages doubled, so she said she would write it on and apply anyway. Im not holding my breath though

My credit rating was quite "colourful" like but i still got my mortgage , sometimes they just put ur rates up a bit , got mine fixed rate for 3 years which is when all my bad credit scores should have fell off so to speak then i can re-mortgage for better rates !!!

    It wasn't happening mate.

My own bank said absolutely no way could I borrow anything if my fella was involved.

Our IFA said it would be about four years before a high street bank would touch him.

The back pages of the Sport beckoned, 15 per cent interest rates and a £30,000 deposit.

I had an absolute nightmare getting a mortgage due to a couple of bad things on my credit file from nearly 6 years ago. Started looking around Septemeber time and finally had my mortgage through the following May!

My mortgage took nearly 5 months to go through when I was already living in the house I was buying.

We're looking to remortgage in the new year and I'm not looking forward to going through that again. I'd hate to think how bad it would be buying a different house
