Only a few discover djs i would recomend, activa a obvious choise along with o bir. yes will holland also, the list could go on and on and on and on.

I live only 10 mins away from sunderland and would like to see something like this work, also local djs would be a good idea imo.

I nearly had a night started in sunderland a few years ago but it all fell through, due to people who didnt have a clue.
was at that manor quay @ the uni. wicked venure that was.

good luck mate and i will keep an eye on this thread:)

Does he ever play in Sunderland though? So far I've found the agencies get quite fussy about certain DJ's playing too much in the same area, nothing was said about Downey so I would imagine August being a clear spot?

I haven't signed anything yet though, can always change it.

Starting a night on the basis of 'lineups' seems like a recipe for disaster to me - especially in a place like the north east where you just dont have the volume of people needed to consistantly keep somewhere busy (assuming this is a business your trying to run).

Start small, and build up from there. If you want an example of something like that - look at what Habit have done. As much as i dont make it to their events as much as i want to, i trust the promoters and dj's to put a great night out on, even if i dont know anything about who's playing.

.... starting out on the basis of trying to please people who check boxes for their nights out (everyone does it - lets face it), is going to run you into the ground very quickly.

Then again, what do i know :) Im just a punter.

SVD has an exclusivity clause in his contract with Goodgreef, so that's a non-starter straight. Downey would be a total waste of time considering he is playing Junior this month.

Will Holland, Menno De Jong, Jon O'Bir... You're hardly looking at crowd pullers here, up here they would possibly work as part of a lineup, but not alone.

You can hardly compare Habit to a trance night  For starters it is obvious for all to see that Newcastle/Sunderland have a massive market for House, but not for trance as the numbers through the doors of more established trance nights up here have shown.

House fans are happy to see small profile, underground DJs play whereas it's a sad fact that Trance fans want big names, smaller names are just too much of a risk imo.

thats a great way to put it

just look round and see nights that have sold out just to get numbers in on the first night its nothing to build from and will take time

think you should sort out residents and stuff and the direction your going to be taking the music in and go from there

sunderland is a canny mission aswell so getting a name for yourself and a regular night that dont let the punters down will be first on the agenda i think

im not sure there has been a better time for trance in the north east too, obviously with evolve at digital, junior:g doing so well (and being bloody class), the supposed godskitchen events starting at digital too, elements in durham, mayhem in boro and possibly a quiet little thing happening in shields too

i realise sunderland wasnt in that list at all as well...but is the demand for trance that big in sunderland anyways ?

despite that, i cant fault your enthusiasm so........good luck

Well thanks everone, I'm taking all your views into consideration.

I've run nights here before with just the small vibe, local djs etc, and tried to build it up but it never works. And I've seen tons of other dj/promoters do the same. Plus the clubs here are a nightmare, no one will let a promoter in.

This time round its different, I want to try a new approach and I'm lucky to have a great little club lined up. Building up a night as some of you said is the propper way to do it, but in Sunderland something more drastic needs to happen. I know my budget and I know exactly how many people I need to get through that door to break even.

If we break even, it'll keep going.

Btw, we do have some great residents, its only Mike Foyle who isn't local.
