a was there few years ago for a Miss Moneypenny's tour - was AWESOME!!!!! as for the sound system - from what i remember its class also!!
But seriously yeah, Ikon does have unbelievable potential. The club is huge and the soundsytem is wkd. if some money was invested through the right ways it could kick off, but at the end of the day it is a complete money spinner and makes thousands. why would they change that ?
aye definately! the place definately has potential!!! with envy right next door as well - cud be perfect pre-club bar!!!!
I think it might be an eyeopener for people if Promise was held in the venue of a cheesy club. Would it be good, Would it be bad. I cant decide.
Are fridays not old skool night ? As for changing Promises venue, I think Promise is getting bigger and bigger and yes, when everyone gets sick of the London scene, more people will head north. Newcastle is getting bigger and bigger and is attracting more and more people from the South. Me pops works for AMEC as a contractor and fcuk knows how many new buildings and whatever else he has built in the toon over the last three years. Newcastle's Promise will require a larger place as at the moment the amount of people that they let in is ludacris. It suits its image but many a time i have come out and spoke to people, visitors, saying its far too cramped. However stil,l a top night. I go there to dance and when Picotto is gonna be there I just know I wont be able to go to the front and bust a groove
Foundation is a v.good place with mint atmosphere but i'd love to see it packing out a 2000-2500ppl venue.
I used to work with the guy who runs the company that runs the door & trust me if he had his way he would refuse all the shite but the size of Ikon means it needs to full for the £££'s.
which company was it spence? they had a total clean out of door staff there not so long back... was talkin to a rozzer that used to come to malmaison wen i was workin there on a night an he said that the vast majority of arrests on a w/e night where drug related ones from IKON cos they're supposed to be one of the sharpest in the town
The company that runs it now is called Phoenix. They run most of the doors in town due to the owner being whiter than white & just 1 off from being a copper. IKON was going to close if this firm did not takeover the door, they were the only firm IKON were allowed to use as the police would not accecpt any other firm.
its hardly packed out every week is it? the last two have been busy but i dont think this warrants a new venue to be fair.. foundation is fine its a spankin good venue.. u should have seen sasha for packed, ive never seen the place that full in 3 years.. sweat as for people moving to the north east, the last pop. census showed the north east had the highest rate of outward migration than any other area in the UK... so i think its gonna be a while before theres any reserse population boom.. u never no though..
thats the one.. very very harsh on scum now though, apparently the saturday night at ikon aint to bad but fridays are still sposed to be pretty evil.. went a couple of years back wen some poor guy got lobbed down the stairs +smashed his head open on bannister.. not a pretty sight.. think i no the guy ur talkin about, the boss used to work at 38 on a saturday night, very proffesional guys, first bouncers ive ever worked with that haven't been coke scrounging twats.
Yes but will going to a so called superclub status get more of you lot through the door.. I think promise should stay as it is cause look at all the "superclubs" on the circit and how crap there doing!!
