i had my tongue pierced a few years back, it was class... the piercing didn't hurt too bad but its uncomfortable when its getting done, my tongue swelled up bigger than the bar for a couple of days which made eating almost impossible and painful and meant i was necking ibuprofen... once the swelling went down it takes a few more days to get use to it, you do bite on it every now and then which nacks... i took it out to play rugby and never got it back in again

It is messy rather than painful as you have to stick your tongue out far and drooling is inevitable.

It can happen but ive had mine pierced for nearly 9 years and never had any problems with my teeth due to it

some people run the piercing along the back of their teeth... kinda like running a stick down a fence, that can take the enamel off ya teeth and cause problems.
