Promise and Quality DJ Competition...

heres a sensible question,any idea 4 a date 4 the next stage of the competition?

i am missing something here? This is a DJ Competition, these people are not sending cd's off to Gods or Crasher so why try and make an impression on you with the cover. It's a competition so you should judge the dj's by their content not the cover!

Are you gonna pick an entry because you like the cover better than someone who's content is far better?

If anything i think you should be telling people you want no cover and simple name address etc like most other competitions are done, this way there's no arguements about whether you got through cos ur cd was prettier.

It doesnt work like that, i wish it did!! promoters when they get a c.d in there hand look at it and if it lookes like you have just put it together in a couple of mins it just gets binned!!

its all about first impressions but i thought that would of been obvious to people!
I think Lee is just trying to give people free advice for future when they are sending c.ds out as he said in his post a couple of pages ago

If there was two people went for an interview at a big company,,,
One of the people was dressed in nice presentable clothes and presented him or herself in a nice manner...

And the other diddnt give a fuck about what he looked like.
Fiar enough he might be able to do the job as good as the other one but your FIRST IMPRESSION!!!! would be not good would it!!

It takes all of 5 minutes to do a cd sticker and a cover for fucks sake!
It could give u more of a chance of playing in the finals etc.

Advice is all well and good, but They are entering a competition not trying to gain a residency. I think it would be different if people were, but the fact is - It's just a competition.

I dont think Lee should be having a go at everyone because the cd's looked tatty. They are amateurs that are entering and dont always have equiptment to make pretty cd's. Not all promoters etc judge you by what the cover looks like, in fact it's quite rare that people care about covers these days, they realise that theres a lot of unknown talent out there and therefore are more open minded "supposedly".

Even if its just a wee sticker with your name and number on in a nice font it beats handwriting on the cd!
Mine is very plain but still looks tidy
People should take pride in their work, its not everyday u get a chance like this!

I agree with Lee, good advice from him for future reference, BUT, this is a COMPETITION, what Richie is on about is the fact that its not a COVER COMPETITION and it should be made fair.......so if i send a cd in with a label attached to it with my number scrawled on etc instead of making an effort with a cover it would get binned? (bit unfair being a competition), or would it join the rest of the competition entries -being fair and get a listen to???

for now, i dont think presentation counts, as its not about the design of covers in the competition....or is it lee?? (you could make it a rule if u like hehe)

but for the future for any up and coming DJs, take Lee's advice yes, if yer applying for a residency or guest slot put effort in presentation....
