    mp3's...

can all of u having a go at the lads using mp3's hand-on-heart say u dont own ANY mp3's of copyrighted material?

a find it hard to believe somehow :)

also - just because someone is using cd's created with mp3's of tracks they dont own...what does this have to do with how well they can mix?

correct me if im wrong - but i thought the idea of this competition (and other comps) was to get a feel for how well the person can actually mix and how well they structure sets etc...

what does it matter if they own the track or not? its same (to me) as a dj playin with sum1 elses records...which does happen.

not having a go at any1 - just a general statement thats all...

also remember - its only MY opinion :)

    Re: mp3's...

all fair points Bri my man, and for the sake of this competition they are all probably correct...but...

its really looked down upon when people use un-released MP3s/tunes they dont own in there promo mixes and sets. DJing is partially about what tunes u own, as well as how well you can structure sets etc. nobody wants to hear classics sets everyweek, and having the most upfront tracks is a very importnat factor. But if somebody is just d/ling them, putting them on CDR and playing them out, and not waiting till they are released they have quite an unfair advantage over everyone else. If you want a tune there are ways to get them, or justwait till its out till you play it. And its just wrong IMO, and lots of other peoples opinions. And it does affect the industry.

This isnt really juat about it being illegal, and im not saying i dont own any tunes on MP3... its kinda a DJ code of ethics...:p Its just not a done thing....other people im sure have different views...

i dont mean to sounds like a self-righteous arsehole, cos im not, but thats my opinion...:)

    Re: Re: mp3's...

totally get ya mate! and can see where ur comin from. in a way tho (not sayin its right mind!) do u not think that these people who CAN find ways to get unreleased stuff to include in their mixes is the same as a dj finding that cracking white label somewhere?

i know mp3's are not strictly legal - but at the end of the day if they are just using kazaa or summit to get em - they are actually available for ANYONE to get.

a see your point (and its a totally valid point) about it maybe being kinda wrong to do....but..a dunno, m not convinced it is summit ppl shudnt b able to do?

every1 entitled to their opinions tho - and a totally respect yours..and every1 elses...maybe am just being a dick but a dont see harm in it :)

look at goal king. he really likes the tunes he has on MP3, they are quality tunes, on quality labels, by good producers. But he hasnt paid for them. So the label and the producer loose out on the cash, stop making the music, then where are we all at? He has no good music to listen to. there is no decent music. With hooj closing down, and bonzai!, but sighting MP3s as one of the main reasons that they had troubles, i just dont think it can have any good effect....

this could be a whole seperate thread...! :p i know alot of people have very string views on this....

this thread contains a few more views on the MP3 situation...

yup - looking at it that way - totally get ya. if noone buys the tunes then no money goes back into industry and then it starts to struggle...

if someone ONLY uses mp3's that they have downloaded (or these make up the vast majority of tunes they play) then i agree this is wrong..shud not be allowed. these ppl are not supporting the industry at all. no score. however, i think if someone wants to use the odd "hard to find" tune on cd which they have created from an mp3 they downloaded because they simply cannot get hold of the tune anywhere, this is ok.

i think that sort of scenario is ok - they are playin it on cd cos they cant actually buy the track....

its a tricky one tho - your right, could go on forever about it...basically people just have to have a bit of tact and not go silly with them i think :)
