With regards to us making the Woolford booking, and with respect to the Shindig lads I would say that a very small percentage of those who caught him at Shindig last year will be at Cosmic, heightening his profile when he is undoubtedly back next year. And it will hopefully bring down a few new faces to our night next month.

to be fair though, the booking of 'other peoples' djs' (if such a thing exists) has gone on for years, it's just more prominent now because there are more promoters and nights about.

no I dont think it does! obviously a bit more chin wagging btwn the nights would help everyone get the most back from it. what about the people who may have missed a dj then find he's on a few month later in the same city, is that not a bonus for them? or is it all about the promoters here.....?

in reference to mr quick's ***comment here*** i would like to refer the honourable local dj gentlemanly fellow to the following terms / phrases and eminant dj bookings

"secret location", phrase used to convey said unknown location of event venue used many many times between the years of 2005 and 2008

"warehouse", square shaped building used for the purposes of running ones business

"legal", being within or pertaining to the right side of the law of the land - by way of an example myself - taking out a temporary events notice for ones events would constitue a LEGAL event.

Also, it's most interesting to note that the likes of joris voorn played at hooked as far back as 2006 / 2007 and greg wilson for suono as far back as 2005 and lee burridge - wasnt he a promise resident when tyrant sound system was there.

anyway...at the end of the day everyone copies everyone else to some extent.... theres very little original ground to be exploited anymore and its basically just people throwing shapes in a square room with flashing lights - its hardly rocket science

having said tho - HABIT are at least trying something different and francois k is a canny booking

just to reply re bookings:

joris - i spoke to chris and checked all ok before booking him
greg - already explained
burridge - yes he was resident with craig richards at promise. good times. he also played shindig after that but was at least a couple of years prior before we booked him.

my point was that it if a dj has played recently for another night or has history/is a regular with another night then it would be courteous for the promoters to have a chat, thats all.

Not one to usually jump in on messageboard chatter. Packed that in a long time ago but now and again you sometimes have to say something.

What it comes down to is mutual respect between people ( in this case "promoters") in the things that they are doing. Melts points rasied, along with many others is that there is always going to be scope for argument around "originality" & "who booked someone first". You could go on and on about all that shit but it means nowt.

Having the courtesy to acknowledge that a night is running and "may" rebook an act they have already had on is (in my book) just polite. Quite obvious that quite a few people dont share that outlook or ethic. There's a few guests we would have liked to have return and play for us. But its been a while since they did and thats fair enough. Not a problem. We've always contacted anyone who has previously had an act play for them (and that has still been running) to query if all was ok.

But when people who have only played a couple of months before are being rebooked elsewhere it really makes you question whats going on. Its kind of defeating the object for everyone concerned. Its like going to Amsterdam and shagging the same prostitute every time you go. Using the excuse that she was really good last month isnt good enough when Erika down the street is pretty fucking good as well.

The point is Erika will fuck your mates (the same as a DJ/act will undoutedly play elsewhere in the same city), but you wouldnt go straight in after them just because your mate came out saying she'll let you do her arse..... Yeah its pretty tempting but most people would give it a miss due to it being really too close to home. (Saying that I know a few people that would probably go in. They arent promoters though, they're just scruffy bastards).

Without going into a massive rant which I was almost tempted to do, I'll just summerise it:

If you were going to open a chinese take away, you wouldnt open one right next door to an existing shop doing exactly the same thing..... At the minute theres quite a few takeaways, all serving a similar menu but sadly they are just using a different design on the front of their window.

You're always going to have crossover bookings. Never going to escape it. Just exercise some common sense......
