i reckon if I lived in halls either my first year or second i would have got nowhere.

Painted breeze block walls? oh my god. it sounds awful.

Imagine coming up from somewhere else, getting bundled into halls and you are left sitting in a tiny box room with painted walls and a bed. god im so so so glad i didnt do that.

Bollocks. You can fail every single module in your first year and still graduate with a first, depending on the course.

You can fuck your 2nd year up, and still get a 1st. On my course you can take 3rd year as 80%.

a 2.2 is just as effective as a first...

aslong as you have a degree or your shit hot at what you do then you will be fine

I went to Preston and knew no-one. I hadn't been in my room five minutes and I'd already arranged a night out with loads of new people.

I wouldn't go that far like, a 2:1 or above will open a lot of doors that lesser degrees won't. You need a decent grade to get a foot in the door in the right places,

What you've said is right after a year or two though. I've been working a few years now and my grade isn't even on my CV, just my degree title.

We're actually advised against halls, and thus have first refusal on student houses. I got the largest room in the best house available, and it only works out as about £65 p/w. Stupid not to I reckon.

when I moved down to London the first 2/3 people I met up with for a drink where the ones I had met through halls in Newcastle 6 years ago, still to this day one of my best friends is a girl who lived opposite me in halls..

Student houses are great for second year once you've made your mates, but for the sheer social factor and playground like feeling of halls I'd say it would be a really foolish move not to go into halls..

I lived out for my first 2 months and then got into Glenamara, it upped my Uni experience immeasurably..

We're all prickish mate, that's part of the job description. We don't really care though, it's the non-medics who seem to be most bothered about how arrogant we are...

I was giving my opinion as somebody who is attending university soon (the same time as Deleted, I think), and has had to go through the chore that is viewing and choosing accomodation. I apologise though, I forgot you were the ultimate authority on university life. You've spent long enough there, anyway...

A 2:1 in a solid degee is your passport to far better career prospects than a 2:2..

Having said that, I only got a 2:2 and they cancelled an interview process of 15 people and offered me my current job on the spot so if you can get your foot in there's nothing to say you won't be any less employable than a 2:1 charlie..
