well, if I was like every other pill popping trance kid It'd be a boring world - I just think that most trance is soooo outdated - and it's just tedious to HAVE to get caned to appreciate it - I just don't think having a narrow minded and convoluted view of electronica is conductive to a wider appreciation of music in general - that's all.....and I did say IMO didn't I? The very fact you've responded makes me smile:p

trance out dated? having to get cained to listen to it? Just bceause a few 'kids' do what THEY do to have fun while listening to it - don't tar us all with the same brush.

    thats pretty narrow minded.

yes - you're right about that mate....I'm really not trying to piss anyone off - and I'm being hypocritical because I used to be well into my trance - but in my opinion it started to become a bastardised parody of itself a few years ago - I used to worship Oakie etc - but now my opinion has changed.........I think I'm a bit of a purist because I'm a DJ - if I wasn't, maybe I wouldn't be exposed to the many different genres of house that I'm familiar with - I like to say that I just play house.....my opinions are those of a DJ, not a clubber as such - so to keep the peace, I'm gonna say that trance is ace if you're into it - and tediously outdated and repetative if you're not....but each to his/her own and remember it's just my opinion...! Who knows - I might go to Promise one day and have a blinding night!

    peace:cool:

sounds like your tastes have changed - like you said, your opinion. Horses for courses and all that.

if you'd have been there friday - maybe u might rethink things - it was far from what some DJ types would call "cool" - it was full of 'charvs' and it had 'comercial DJs' that some people think are not 'underground' anymore - but u know what - the music was fantastic, the atmosphere was great, the 'clubbers' were having a great night, bouncing around... couldn't have been a better night anywhere in the country. so it wasn't 'underground'.... so lots of known tunes were played.... so it wasn't held in a 130 maximum capacity venue... so what - it was a brilliant party and everyone loved every minute!

On an average week i might listen to 50 hours of dance music, of which 10% of it is trance... the rest is prog, breaks, techno etc etc... Doesnt stop me saying im a fan though.

Trance is something that i only find bearable in small doses, but when its done right - you cant top it. Your right that its become a parody of itself in some ways but it depends on how you pick and choose the nights you go to. If you go clubbing at gatecrasher or godskitchen for the 4-5 peak time trance DJ's then you'll get bored of it very quickly, which many people have done in recent times..... Which is probably why those scenes are falling on their arse in recent times.

You can still be a huge fan of trance music if you make sure you pick events and lineups where there might only be one trance jock on that night, and towards the end of the evening....

    Everything in moderation.

heh heh - I'm gonna piss on my own fire even more here and say that I've never even been to Promise!!! And I'm not exactly as pure as the driven snow when it comes to illegal substances either (if you'll pardon the pun) - but I do take a strong stance against pills/poppers/coke and all that shit and I'm unrepentant about that
    - I have been to Cream, Gatecrasher, and I used to virtually live in the Hacienda - and I had a wicked night every time....maybe I'm pissed that trance started to become commercial and loads of get-rich-quick 'producers' flooded the market with chart-bothering shite - now that I really CAN'T stand......what I'd like to hear is some quality underground trance - so reassure me that Promise will deliver and I swear I'll give it a go:rolleyes:

There is an unbelievable amount of 'underground' trance kicking about, you will hear all this commercial stuff on the radio or where ever but stuff like that just doesn't get played in Promise

Try it, you might just like it

i can't promise that for the next month or so - but u did miss the G&D/Tom Neville night for you 'purists'.... and i wouldn't call promise a 'chart playing' club... but you would only know if u visited!

Promise and the Gallery at Turnmills are (in my limited experience) probably the only remaining 'underground' feeling clubs left in the UK....

All the other nights have the 'big bucks' feel about them (Crasher etc) .... Whether or not those kind of nights will survive outside capital cities is an interesting question as peoples tastes in clubbing seem to be moving on from nights out where you come home covered in club gunk ... and more towards the posh superclub vibe (which aint my bag).

With that i would say you should support these kind of events more since they are a dying breed.

Agree'd - it just goes to show how the whole superclub thing in the UK has essentially wrecked the tastes of the masses .... Gabriel and Dresden for gods sake - And barely anyone went.

Those guys would pack out any club you could think of in the USA/Asia...

    Jeeez.

I think the general advice here is to actually visit the place before I start whingeing about trance!

sorry dudes - nee offence was intended like - I'm just opinionated about some things....and I want to be on this forum long term - it's pretty cool. It's mainly about the trance on here so I'll think before opening my gob in future

we really ain't had a go at you - i think we've been quite reserved actually compared to recent board slangings on newbies (allegedly) but don't hold back - say what u think - i'm sure people will in return, let you know what they think!

People do slate the state of trance at the mo - but i think there's nowt wrong with it!
