I keep myself amused by throwing my authority around. I chucked a charver out for throwing a straw at me last week. I felt really good considering he was a proper muscle head who could have squashed me with his thumb

How many of the above work long anti-social hours on a pittance, dealing with uppity little knobheads, and then have the privilege once the bar closes (after informing everyone in the bar several times of the fact they are actually closed and don't really enjoy watching you and you really funny mates dick around for an extra half an hour) of being allowed to remain on the premises well into 4-6 in the morning to mop, wipe, sweep and pick their way through 10 hours of beer, sick and glass...

I only tip bar staff who are in the shit, give good service or are working very hard and aren't cocky with it... made all the better when they appreciate it..

and as for waiters, they provide no more service than bar staff, when you think about it they actually provide less service, but the tip is always assumed..

si - where did you grow up again? ;)

None of the above deal with any of the things i mentioned as a collective, that was my point.

Tipping a bar man is kind of an honour thing, I tip you because I'm getting pissed and having a laugh while your stuck behind some grubby little bar, usually very tired and very sober... its a pleasentry, when was the last time you saw or spoke to your binman or postman?

people who work behind a bar get pissed for free after they finish, have good banter with punters, maybe get some hot birds phone number, listen to good tunes allnight if they work somewhere good.

    they don't deserve tips aswell

i dont get too many tips in my bar job but then i dont work somewhere with 'high class' clientelle... however i used to quite a bit on the golf club bar i worked at.

all it did was make me favour the people who tipped me and give them better service, afterall im not going to bust a gut for all the pissed up geordie bullhead wankers who piss and moan at the bar... if someone shows me some courtesy, even just in manners, i'll be favourable to them than the hoards of arseholes you get in bars.

plus where i work we dont get free drinks and were never allowed to stand still and talk, you have to be doing something at all times.

if you've never worked on a bar you can never understand the fucking cretins who think its their right to abuse you or touch up the barmaids etc etc... i like the job as its more social than an office or call centre, but having done call centre work as well you cant compare the states of people who use each service.

i'd never expect a tip, but its nice when someone appreciates that you've done a decent job often under pressure from drunken fuckwits shouting from all angles.

call centre jobs are shit, but they are generally higher paid and impersonal compared to face to face bar work.

and the only tip i would give scruf is to cut his hair ;)

    mug

At the end of the day, when you apply for a bar job you know what you are getting into so all those points are irrelevant. Do you tip Pizza/Kebab shop workers? Because they have to deal with exactly the same as a bar person

its so easy to tell who has and hasnt been a bar person in this thread
