Yeah I know exactly what you mean there mind, couldn't agree more! On reflection going straight into a job may have been better but then I would have missed out on the uni experience and had some awesome times so was worth it!

I didn't realise you were a programmer geek brid.

    Contract Developer - C#/VB.NET/ASP.NET/Sharepoint 2007/SQL200/SQL2005 :dunce:

..... Just got a contract doing classic ASP though - They took me on even though i categorically stated i stopped doing asp about 5 years ago. The Full SC Security clearance that i got sponsored for at my last job is like a Willy Wonka golden ticket apparently

If you get a chance to ever get sponsored for security clearance, go for it.

... Oh, and .NET is where its at if your looking to specialise in coding.

What is this apparent holy grail brid?

I'm only any good at logical, procedural coding. can't get away with this object oriented nonsense! May dabble in .NET a bit in some side projects...

I did my final year project in PHP/MySQL though...no prior experience and i got everything working :D

If you want to be a broadbase developer though - OO based coding represents 99% of the job market ..... not sure what it is you want to specilise in?

Theres definately a buck or two in that.

Get some on the job experience in configuring cisco routers and firewalls and in a few years time you'll be raking it in.

Dont get hung up on certifications - wait for a company to pay for you to do them.

I didn't bother going to mine. Poncing about in gowns and paying for it. They just send it in the post if you don't turn up.

And as someone who has interviewed people for jobs it's at least 50% that you like their personality and think they will fit in than it is their qualifications or work experience. (As long as you think they can do the job )( or can be trained to do the job)

If i had kids, i wouldnt want them going to uni - and entering the world of work with a 10-20 year legacy of paying off the debts they ran up in 3-4 short years on something that in alot of cases ..... has very little practical value.
