    Copper semiconductor manufacturing.

Replacing Al with Cu is allowing wafer fabrication at much smaller geometries and will help improve all kind of advances in the world of electronics.

Copper still has its limits though. Replace the interconnects with tungsten interconnects and silicon carbide technology. Then overclock the chip as much as you can and watch as you run it at 400oC.

    Silly thread.

The public don't get to know about some tech advances until about 10 years after they are discovered!

Ask Lt Lee Foster about Invisibility Projector Suits as worn by James Bond and real life Special Forces.

As for public domain tech...... Id say DVD's and DAB becoming affordable to people from council estates is important. MOS is right about IPods as well.... those cant be ignored. Id cross mobiles of the list tho, how far can you advance a phone? im bored now.

i don't think broadband has changed the world as much the first dial up connections - thats when the internet moved from the work place/university to the home. Freeserve and 1p a minute internet brought the net to the mainstream.

so u can download stolen copyrighted property quicker - so what? when it first arrived - thats what it's all about.

What about Virgin offering flights into space? That's certainly up there with the car and the aeroplane.

Thompson the travel agents did that years ago... for my 21st my mum bought me, as a bit of a jokey unusual present, a presentation pack that had a certificate, space-luggage labels and a possible brochure - it entitles me to be 1 of the first 1000 people to have a chance to buy a ticket on the first comercial space flight... it's a bit like a paying que jumper

I agree with you, SpaceShipOne the commerial craft that reached suborbital levels twice within 6 weeks and won the ansari x prize, is the the biggest tech advance in the last 5 years.

It pioneering the way for commerial space travel.
