i did shindig a few weeks ago for alister whitehead... i thought :

    1) it was pretty empty. still the usual amount of regulars left at the end, similar to a promise night.

    2) it was a bit shit.

music wasn't my cup of tea but i had to go cause quite a few people rant on about how good it is. it's weird how some nights keep going and others struggle.

I know the feeling!! It was only free because Norman knew he would make a shit load of cash off the merchindise. Was it successful as an event ?????Dead people, road & rail chaos, brighton beach looked like a dump afterwards,Brighton & Hove Council,Hove Police & Ambulance service didnt have many good things to say about the event afterwards but at least Star 69 got played:D

Go to the library in Newcastle. They should have a directory which lists all the trusts, councils etc in GB. I can't remember the name of the directory...Its something obvious like 'The Directory for Performing Arts in GB'. (Will have to look in my book when I get home).
Obviously these won't give the vast amounts of money to throw something large scale such as Brighton beach, but are very helpful toward smaller scale events. Most offer up to £30,000 worth of funding. If you need more then add FatBoy's sponsors, CD's, TV rights etc to fund the rest? We both know you know all of this already so thanks for being patronising.

Yeah, the beach is screwed for the next few years! When FBS was interviewed afterwards he claimed it was a success. I had a good time.
The road and rail chaos is happening everywhere as we post. Understandably the Police didn't enjoy not having control but I don't think many were taken to hospital during or after!? I think that was FBS's main point when describing it as a success.:)

Norman did say it was a success in the interview after he played but I think he changed his opinion after he found out someone had died.

Agree with Hed Kandi, but i'm sorry but your wrong about Shindig Imo. Yes there are a fair amount of poseurs (mainly upstairs&around the edges) but if you go to dance cos you like the music and atmosphere as me and other people do then you don't notice them, it's always a really good night.:D

Shindig does play sophisticated music generally (ok subliminal djs's playing just their own label excepting). And I enjoy the subliminal type nights as well, even tho I don't like the music as much, becuase they are always going to be busy and there's a good atmosphere.

Alister Whitehead - someone mentioned never seen him, he's at shindig fairly regular tho, wud have thought attendance would have been down when he is there compared to average tho.

SK was wicked - was busy and quality music:D

Only been down here since January and have been well impressed by the variety available at Foundation, both through shindig: and promise.

I've seen Jon Carter, Steve Lawler, Danny Howells, John Digweed, Tomiee, Pete Tong (ropey) and Sasha is on this Sat not to mention Lee Burridge, Lottie and Yousef coming up. The club has also seemed really busy every time I've went - I do agree though that clubbing can get monotonous but I don't really suffer from that only going out once a month these days.

He was terrible - club had been warmed up perfectly then he started really predictably playing all this really boring techno (mixing very badly). He looked REALLY wrecked which was fairly amusing and a bit surprising. I left at 2am with a sore head and an empty wallet.

    Nice idea...

Of course I am aware of the 'funding' registers. I tried last year to secure funds to purchase a synthesizer, which I needed as part of my course. After countless failures, I came to the conclusion that it is next to impossible to secure funding; unless you fit a politically correct demographic that is popular at that time.

£30,000 worth of funding? You secure it Terry and put on an event, I wish you luck.

Hope that didn’t patronize you too much.

Princes Trust, various European funding bodies, a few through the Local Education Authority. After 10 knockbacks I just saved up the money, which took longer, but was a hell of a lot easier.
