Personally, it's not really my cuppa, some of it's good, some of it's shit, but to me the good stuff isn't THAT good, and the shit stuff is REALLY shit, but I guess that's just down to opinion.

But there are some pretty good labels kicking about....

Personally, I don't see the point in a night's worth of music that you need to take a sack full of horse tranquiliser to "understand".

It's a fashion thing, like electro house was a year or so ago, it will always be around now, when the big lads start playing the next micro genre of haircut house, and vets start alarming their drug cabinets, people will move on, but that's just the way the music scene seems to work.

edit: I don't necessarily agree that it's poorly produced; due to the stripped down nature of it, the production level is usually pretty high, at least to me anyway.

Shit loads of really good techno DJs have jumped ship and taken up the minimal thing over the past year. Mind to be fair, there has been a lot of shit looped up techno released over the past year or so, but that's no excuse, they should make some good stuff :D

I understand people's taste can evolve into something new over time, but I agree that too often it is influenced by the media.

i aint arsed if u like it or not it dont change my opinon :)

and i aint paticularly arsed if you disagree with what i say, everyone has the own opinion.

and not everyone can like the same thing would be rather boring now wouldnt it :)

I like a lot of minimal. Ok, so the really bleepy, glitchy stuff might not be well suited to peak time sets, but the housier end of minimal is still decent.

Check - Elektrochemie " Don't Go" on Get Physical

Or Martin Landsky "1000 Miles" on Poker Flat

A lot of music that gets tagged as minimal is not even 'minimal'.

a lot of the stuff that steve bug, mayer, ame, james holden, alex smoke etc are playing it not really that minimal and is very accessible and melodic. a lot of it is just good HOUSE music.

THE WAY I SEE IT, dance music only needs to do one thing , make you want to dance

on most occasions MINIMAL does not do this

imho its like japanese water torture

and the equivalent of watching paint dry

obviously theres a few exceptions to this but in general its souless gash

Have to agree, bought mixmag about a year ago as featured a minimal cd by Loco Dice, like most people on hear i had heard all the hype and was quite interested to hear what it was like, however after three songs i was feelin sleepy so replaced it with music that actually had some life about it. I thought dance music was supposed to make you want to dance? Well... all minimal does is make me want to sleep, if i wanted music to make me slepp i would have put on some David Grey or Coldplay.

Seramic speeadboats, that drive up your cacky shoot when your on the dancefloor at a minimal event. You have to wear scarves and T-shirts for them to work proplerly though..... God I hate those cunts.....

So true. A lot of the tracks in this set below that I posted a while back are classed as minimal, but have so much more character than the real deal, glitchaton minimal.
