Whats your thoughts on asylum seekers

back to the issue of unemployment - ive dug out some statistics for you to 'browse' ( i should be using this time for working on my final assignment, so if i fail, im blaming this )

these stats were found at: http://www.publications.parliament.uk if you wish to look them up.

in 1999, the number of people from ethnic minorities (and this accounts for ALL ethnic minorities) who were unemployed in the uk, totalled 200,000.

in 1999 the number of white people who were unemployed in the uk, totalled over 1,600,000.

now in terms of percentage of the total population, these statistics work out roughly at:

roughly 6% of the white population of the UK were unemployed in 1999.

roughly 12% of the ethnic minority population of the uk were unemployed in 1999.

so yes, there is a higher percentage of ethnic minorities out of work. however - the fact still remains that the white population of the uk uses 7 times the amount of 'income support' that the ethinc minorities do.

also, for those that say that the immigrants are not trying to get jobs, here are the (rough) amounts by which umeployment levels are falling per year.

white population: 0.4%

Ethnic population: 0.8%

so the enemployment level in ethnic minorities, is falling at twice the rate of unemployment levels for the white community.

So there you go, thats how it is. after researching that - my viewpoint remains the same as it was.

we may have a lower rate of unemployment, but we are still the biggest drain on government funding. And as well as this, the ethnic minorities unemployment percentage is falling at TWICE the level of the white unemployment percentage per year.

The Mail is good at taking one example and applying it to a whole issue. Of course there are some instances where asylum seekers are getting large hand-outs from the state. There are almost certainly some cases where a genuine asylum seeker could be sent back home and killed.

If you want to take this down to individual case, you'll lose, unless you think your education is more important than a childs life.

In general, nothing you've said changes the fact that's it's our moral and ethical duty to help genuine asylum seekers. If you want to argue that some asylum seekers are taking the piss, you'd not get much argument from me, it's probably true.

When it comes to your individual ethics and morals, don' you think you should have some of your own, rather than accept what was drilled into you as a child?
