Going to see Richy Hawtin @ Sankeys on the 11th, can't wait. I haven't seen him before or been there before.

sankey soap niteclub is a strange place to go........what ever u do don't take a coat & advise any1 who's going with ya to do the same.......the coat place is outside of the club & it took us an hour to get our coats back when we were there!!!

its a pokey club in the back street sumwhere but fucking class...

try this out 4 me as well plz........apparently u can climb inside the speakers in sankey but we never knew this til after we'd been!!

Cos its dance music stripped right down to the bones! No gimmicks,just simple drum patterns. Quality

This is a very amusing thread you have started.

The term 'techno' originally stemmed from electronically produced music. If you research back to the days of the avant-garde Music Concrete, which used synth and tape splicing as the basis for the form, and then skip forward to Nytzer Ebb, Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Jean Michelle Jarre (I could go on all day), you will see they are all regarded as techno. Music created by technology: techno. The Germans excel at this genre, which, let us not forget, is as fragmented with sub categories as trance, house and pop styles.

Most elements of music use techno in their production. Pure techno based music is very minimal and sparse. Jeff Mills is a worthy exponent of this particular off shoot.

So the 'purists' on the board might want to go and listen to a wider selection of music before they give sanctimonious judgement; perhaps you do not actually know what techno actually is, perhaps you follow, drone like, popular trends cleverly marketed by lables and 'celebrity' DJ's, not really appreciating or truly understanding the style at all.

Scenario 1: Clubber

Week 1: I love trance. Why? ‘Because I had it large at ‘Crasher’ I love all those floating melodies.

Week 2: I love techno. Why? Because it’s banging and so cool.

Week 3: I love hard dance. Why? Because all the big DJ’s are playing it!

Week 4: I love erm ahhh, oh no, all of this constant change has destroyed my love of music forever; I am doomed to be a wandering Philistine, never loving, only passing hollow criticisms, from which I have no basis to give informed constructive critique.

This leads back to the current climate of people jumping on, and off, the bandwagon with each new passing trend. If you like something, be proud that you have made a personal choice and stay true to your convictions.

And now I can answer the question.

I love techno because it influences and plays an important part in all genres of electronic music.

Without techno, trance would be spineless. Without trance, techno would seem cold and uninviting.

it also lowers cholesterol.

because out of all types of music i dance and listen too - this 'type' is the sort that gets my adrenalin runnin highest and is basically the most 'fucked up' in that it is so fast, packed, hard, twisted, arranged, etc...

a lot of other music such as sterotypical 'trance' is nice to listen too but doesn't get my heart racing as much as techno does

i love techno, tho i think its an acquired taste, theres just something about its rawness that tunes into some primitive emotion i think. getting over the initial impact of the musci is a hard step once u do theres alot to be taken from the genre.

Exactly. Took me aaaaages to appreciate techno. Absolutley ages. If it came on after trance i'd run out the room. Now i'm dying to see DJ Rush after seeomg a video of him at Nature one lastm year :groovy:

I have been doing the techno thing for years, I admire the way it's played, I love the beats and I love the vibe in a techno club. It's appealing to a larger audience due to the likes of Picotto and your man fergie dragging the techno sound into bigger clubs. Leave it in the underground and off top of the pops, if you don't like it don't listen. Real techno DJ's play with the skills of a hip hop DJ, and fuse all genres of music together, I have heard dave clarke dropping Marilyn Manson tunes, Carl Cox playing Basement jax, they jump from one to another without ever compromising the energy of their set.

Techno will never be mainstream. To most people its unlistenable.

I didn't like techno then I don't like techno now, I was going to go to orbit to see what all the fuss was about - I'm entitled to form my own opinions... Unlike some narrow minded twats I base my opinion on facts and experiences. Not what some aging bald twat and his underage groupies think.
