Sunderland is in the main a shit hole - you cant get away from that. Its a small city that does live in the shadow of Newcastle, in the same way that other smaller cities around the country do to bigger ones - Bradford to Leeds, Chester to Liverpool etc etc. I would never try and argue any different - in terms of size of the city, population, history, culture, tourist attractions etc then we do come a sad second best.

If im not mistaken though - this is a sport sub-forum, not a tourism/british history one?

The fact of the matter is that we are the no.1 football club in the region at present. Premiership status retained, one of the top young managers in the country appointed and some very promising signings leave us aiming firmly for a top 10 finish this season, while the Newcastle fight off administration under Ashleys wise leadership.... some players may have left, though look through the squad list below and tell me how at championship level that squad us sustainable?

The fact of the matter is it isnt, the likes of Colloccini, Barton etc probably arent far off earning what some of the lower teams in the league pay out to their full squad per week. Not to mention the money it cost to put the squad together and the yearly installments of the fees that Shepherd famously negotiated, and trying to use the £13 million a year TV rights (dropped from £60+m last season and drops even lower every year for 3 years under the parachute payments) to pay the bills.

Rinse our city all you want - i dont live there and couldnt give a fuck. Where it matters is on the pitch, and at the moment thats an argument your tourism and history isnt going to win you boys.

It must be true if some numpty says it. I suppose all of the players that we got this season all think the same about us and want to leave asap to go to newcastle. maybe if it didnt mean playing championship football then they would.

I agree both cities are absolute shitholes for every nice house in each city there are 10 minging ones, so let keep this to football which sunderland are better at thisy year
