Right i'm starting a trust fund, all money raised will go towards building a nightclub with only 100% of the clubbers interests in mind.

PM me with any donations cheers.

    PS..

I dont understand why people bugger off so early in Newcastle.

We were going till half 5 in the morning for Sasha and Diggers last week in Leeds which is only 100 miles away and even then the place was still busy!

..... They must be putting something in the water or beer that makes people in the region around the Tyne and Wear rivers bugger off once the clock strikes 1 or 2!

586 .... theres no incentive to put on all those things you say, even if i completely agree with you. I'd say the type of clubbing we do only stands to make any chance of a profit off of drink sales once you've paid for all the things you mention.

Who would ever want to 'invest' in a club playing underground dance music ... you'd have to market it at the mainstream first to make enough money to pay the bills (i.e. Alcohol) and then squeeze in stuff like that around it.

.... Which is probably why most of the nights STILL running (or ran for ages) are in places that had most of the infrastructure in place before they were rigged up as clubs (MOS, Turnnmills, The End, Foundation etc), or were bought/rented during the last recession when someone ELSE had made a massive loss on them, or they were going for an absolute song.

There will probably be another wave that hits in the next few years when alot of dumb money has been shaken out. When everywhere is boarded up, bankrupt and places are going derelict then there will be scope for people to try something new again.

    It's wiered!
when we were down at DS the other month we all totally lost track of time, we had to rush out the Club as our 6.30am train was due, club still absolutely rammed & the place was going nuts - different culture.

As i've always said, up here it's much more of a beer/pubs/onthelash/onthepull/stag parties/hen parties type culture, get out as early as possible and get hammered as cheap as possible.

Its no different around the country though.

The culture as MOS says it, seems to be more of a state of mind than anything else, since people FROM that region suddenly become ALL NIGHTERS the moment they step outside the region.

Maybe its a 'townie' thing - I suppose the more south you go, the more people from surrounding areas, and probably the greater the incentive to stretch your nights out as much as possible.

It sounded great for crispy when we put half a stack in there and used the in-house.

There are the soundsystems (Binni,Pangea,us) now in Newcastle to help sort venue's that lack sound it just really poeple getting off there arse's and going out.

The cooperage used to get between 250-400 most nights Backlash vs Rollies for mice sold at by 12.30am last october and that was a Hard techno Room, breaks,Dudstep and then a Main room playing loads of Harder Music with Drumcorps Headling.

If non commercial styles can do it then why not local House,Trance nights or is everyone just chasing the big names.

The sound clash NYE events sold out as well.

Giving poeple different music in different rooms really helps smaller nights as it brings different crews togeather and open clubbers minds to new/overlooked styles more.

I've never been to a place like it, such a shame that you have to travel to Leeds to experience it

In my sort time clubbing at trance nights etc I've noticed the crowds get smaller & smaller. Thats only been over the last 3 years or so. In the past 6 months its been more noticable

fair point, the in house soundsystem is rubbish- easily remedied though, and it is a cracking venue- layout is ace for dance music- we looked at a lot of venues and its the only one that size that we liked. run by sound folk as well

re the other stuff about other clubs being needed- I think anyone opening a medium size club in town atm would lose a lot of money in the long run, would be popular initially but there ain't enough of a market for anything dedicated to dance music- digital pisses all over the other venues in town from a great height in terms of the way it is run, marketed and the way they book people- no one else is really competing- they seem to pull in the vast majority of people who go out every weekend rather than the 10-20% of dj's/scenesters/folk who post on messageboards. I don't like the place, but fair play to them

whats' the incentive for anyone with the money to do it though?

clubbers take drugs (which causes trouble with the law from day 1) and spend less at the bar when compared to pissheads

shit soundsystems for shit pop/cheesy music are alot cheaper than good soundsystems for dance music to install and maintain

Get some local geordie bigmouth on the decks playing the aforementioned shit music for £200 a night, charge £5 in = full club the alternative is get external promoters in who book djs who cost £500 plus and charge £10 on the door= half full club = less takings at the bar

As far as I can gather the council fucking hate the "party city" image newcastle has and won't let anyone open a new club anyway

in a city like newcastle which is much smaller than say leeds and has a binge drink culture the numbers just don't add up as a business venture when compared with openning a cheesy place

BUT if the people who wanted to open such a dance orientated venue knew their onions they could corner the market and clean up, but it'd be more stressful than just opening another bambu/liquid etc venue I reckon plus you lot would still complain it wasn't "right"

I say support the venues we've got and as they make more money they'll get better I'm sure alot of the places that get slagged off on here would love to have top notch soundsystems and the like but maybe they don't have the cash to do so

couple of obvious reasons i would say. 1. clubs are regulary licensed till 5/6am in Leeds and 2. afterparty scene.

of course it is bigger as well with a bigger scene but i just think there is a different culture there - council seem much more lenient as well.

ps. a 400 capacity club, programmed correctly and with the right management/marketing in a good venue with excellent soundsystem and central location in newcastle would 100% work.

Looking back when I first started clubbing, there were never any problems filling the likes of Foundation and other clubs from that era, I realise it's dead and buried but half of the battle is being in the right place at the right time.

Foundation took off partly because the scene was still relatively underground and young pups needed somewhere to go listen to loud music and take lots of drugs without getting to much agro.....this was what foundation was best at.

Now, Newcastle is a commercial maze of not only countless dance events but also normal run of the mill clubs/pubs, hence why Newcastle is one of the best places for hen/stag parties etc.

I agree with Gary when he says that there aren't the clubbers anymore but what makes it look worse is the variety and ease at which on any given Fri/Sat, you can go out in town and have a massive choice of events to attend thus exasperating the already depleted number of dance club punters.

We've had it good for that long that we've become very complacent, Newcastle is brimming with potential venues but I agree they do lack that little something that would make you don your best sneakers and attend week in week out.

The town needs something new and inventive.....any ideas on what it could be?

I reckon if three or four smaller nights teamed up hired digital split the costs and poolled their resources they could do really well

failing that start a clubbing/coach trip business taking punters from Newcastle round the UK to different cities, just hire a coach and provide a entry+transport ticket deal by working with the destination venue to guarantee entry for people on your coach so the punter just pays you and they get to and from the club from newcastle no problem

Or we could just all go all the wicked free events down the tyne this summer to partys at the star and shadow and smaller gigs in the decent pubs and bars.
